About

Dr. Douglas Floyd Kelly is a pastor and theologian who taught systematic theology at Reformed Theological Seminary for more than three decades (1982–2016). His work was shaped by doctoral study under Thomas F. Torrance at the University of Edinburgh as well as by sustained study of Scripture and the Christian tradition in the original languages. Dr Kelly’s ministry combined rigorous theological scholarship with gospel saturated preaching in a way that hewed closer to doxology than ordinary doctrine.
His preaching and writing frequently addressed the doctrine of God, the authority of Scripture, the person and work of Christ, and the theological foundations of Christian ethics. He is the author of several works including If God Already Knows, Why Pray? (1992), translations of Calvin's Sermons on II Samuel (1989), and the multi-volume Systematic Theology, a biblically grounded and historically informed Reformed exposition of Christian doctrine centered on the Trinity, Christ and the Holy Spirit. Alongside his academic work, he faithfully served in pastoral ministry and lectured widely throughout the entirety of his career in churches and theological institutions both domestically and internationally.
